Supposingly thought I act like a deviant but thinking thru the person I came across before, I am still rather average. Was chatting with some colleagues on what to do for company retreat and suggestions like catching prawns and fishing came into the discussion...
I was rather irritated at first and it makes no sense just for a retreat, we actually need to try have fun out of the animals' misery. But here comes some interesting observation on "scale of compassion".
Here I have some colleagues and definitely alot more thinking that fishing is great fun and is alright to kill "for recreation". On another end of the spectrum seeing people becoming a vegan instanteously. I was sort of stuck in the middle. To me, fishing is like being in a slaughter house yet I still can not give up by carnivorous inclination.
Seeing most environmental factors rather similar (age, social status, nationality and race), compassion can differ disparingly. Then what really cause the difference.
I suppose if anyone would to discover a way to turn every one into vegetarians and shows compassion and equanimty to all animals, I think that will be the proudest invention by mankind and of great benefits not just to these fellow planet inhabitants and also cleanses the blood thirsting urge of every human.
By the way, fishing with a hook and a line yet letting go after the catch is not very compassionate as well. Fate of being painfully hooked is worst than death!
