Just came back from JB teachers training!! Was a great experience and I believe all participants agreed. Really thanks, FGS Singapore, FGS Malaysia, Ven Miaoyu, Prof Bao Ru, Principle Karen and all fellow teachers for making all this possible.
The trip sets off at 25th Dec, and yes its the day straight after Xmas :) Although I have not been a good and regular volunteer yet Karen invited me for the training! Fellow participants were no strangers with just a few new faces and a great chances to know each individual teacher deeper especially volunteer teachers at Pu Ti Primary.
The first 2 days meals were all vegetarian meals provided by FGS malaysia and was really nice wor! The accomodation was also well planned and we all feel so comfortable.
Prof Bao Ru delivered a great lesson introducing us his way of running his kindergarten and his valuable case studies he met throughout his career. I believe his succes was brought about by his passion in education as well as his cheerful outlook towards life, ever so carefree yet so discpline in living his ideas.
Some valuable lessons I have gained is on the art of communications. Often then not we always unconciously forced our perceptives on others and always pressume we are doing the best for them. But I come to realise that our best may not really be the best for them, be it the kids or anyone we can across. The idea is to listen to what the kids want and always give them the chance to learn by their own ways.
He also tried his very best to give us a good introduction into high/scope strategies and now my brain was saturated with ideas I would try to enforce into my techniques. Now left the actual application. Something unexpected out from the lessons were some goal actualisation and personal development ideas that seems to be the most practical I ever heard before. Much better than those motivational talks you get by paying a few grands.
On this trip, the fun was not possible without our fellow youthful teachers, full of laughters and synergies for each other. I come to realise that in a team, we all have our speciality, characters and reasons in our voluntaring work. But coming together, we can accomplish a great deal. But like what prof Bao Ru was saying, its always not about the result but the process. And I see lights in the process now and I believe we will go far and continue to benefit kids that we had our hands lay on and people that has cross our path.
Can't wait to see the kids now!! but haiz have to wait 6 mths more before I can do anything. But yup I have promise to and will commit myself :)
