Labeling

I guess the most favorite pastime for mankind is labeling. Before we are even born, we are labeled by sex, race and name. During our educations, we are labeled by our grades, intelligence as well as the group we stick around with.

In religion, god believers can't imagine the world without god. In the same religion, people are labeled from where they come from, discipline and what they focus in. In social gatherings, people are labeled due to their work, their social class and even their background.

I personally feel that becos' of labeling, there is differences, prejudices, arguments and even war. What's there to label in a person? It should not be the background as it has gone with the past. It should not be the present too as its too soon to tell. Yet its not the future as there is nothing to judge on.

If in religion, people still label. Then why we need a religion. Its just another social setting. And in Buddhism, if we still label, when can we free ourselves from labels. Isn't labeling itself attachments?

I personally believe there is no sure-win route to enlightenment and all people have their own best way to reach the destination. Jus find the most comfortable way!!

If not for "labeling", how do I call you? Not by calling you Nelson, then how should I address you? There are certain things in which I feel that, with the labeling process, we are categorised and it is this categorisation that make us strive to better. It is this categorisation that let us see the difference, be it good or bad, and teach us what is to be done, what shouldn't. You are right that we are all labeled. But I can't imagine a world without labeling, as today will just be another day like yesterday, and tomorrow.

Cheers!

Yup. I agree. Labeling is created to identify things. Its part of communication and without label, how should i call myself.

But if labeling is only in the context of communication, why not. But if labeling is used in social aspect such as the caste system in ancient india or the social class now, then trouble and discontentment arises.

I've watch a sci-fi series called the star trek where individual work to provide their expertise. No more important or less important job difference. Although its jus a show , but jus imagine how technology will progress tremendously with no withholding of knowledges and pple performing to their best to serve mankind!!

An idea like the atomic bomb was invented for scientific advancement and ease of living. The least expected outcome by Einstein was a mass killing machine and also advancement for nuclear warheads that have hundreds times more killing power.

Its all about throttling the middle path and avoiding extremes.
